Getting Around Boise

Boise, Idaho has a population of 200,000, making it a small city that is still extensive to explore. Luckily, the city has many transportation options available for visitors. Boise's public transportation system includes bus, taxi, and carpooling services. There are also numerous car rental services available.

Bus

Boise's Valley Ride transit service provides fifteen bus routes that span the city, particularly in the downtown and tourist areas. Valley Ride also provides transportation to neighboring cities and counties. The most popular Boise routes run every 30 minutes, with full hours on weekdays and shortened hours on Saturdays. There is no bus service through Valley Ride on Sundays or major holidays, so plan travel accordingly.

Disabled visitors to Boise should contact the Idaho CareLine at #211 for paratransit options.

Taxi

Boise's many taxi services provide flat-rate transportation from the airport, as well as per-mile rated service from any location. Taxis are often available directly from the airport, but can be found through a hotel's information desk. Always check the standard fare when taking a taxi, and remember to tip your taxi driver 10% to 15% of the total fare.

Auto Rental

For those who will be traveling extensively during their stay in Boise, renting a car may be the easiest and cheapest travel option. There are a number of car rental services available throughout Boise, with many run directly from the Boise Airport. Always remember to call ahead to check rates and to ensure car availability.

Alternative Methods

The Ada County Highway District is trying to lower Boise's pollution and traffic levels. To promote this effort, the city runs a Commuteride service that encourages carpooling. If staying in Boise with a large group or for an extended time, consider utilizing the Commuteride carpool or van service. These options are a cheaper and more energy efficient way to get around Boise!
